100 years of clean water in Amsterdam

100 years ago, the city of Amsterdam decided to install a separate public sewer system. The municipality also decided to treat the wastewater in a sewage treatment plant before it was discharged into the environment. The city was a pioneer in this regard. Since 1997, the Regional Public Water Authority Amstel, Gooi and Vecht has been responsible for treating wastewater.
