About our public water taps

• The first public water taps were installed in 1903. At that time, not everyone had running water at home. The government wanted everyone to have access to clean drinking water.

• Waternet installs, maintains and manages the public water taps. We do this on behalf of the City of Amsterdam and other local authorities to which we supply drinking water.
