Where is the main water shut off valve?

The location of the water meter varies from home to home:

• It is usually located in the meter cupboard.
• Sometimes, it is located in the toilet, bathroom or kitchen.
• Still unable to find it? Check under the hatch by the front door or back door.
• Do you live outside of Amsterdam, and do you have a front garden? Then the main water shut off valve and water meter may also be located in the outdoor water source in the front garden.

Do you share a water meter with other apartments?

Then the main water shut off valve is usually located in the common area.

No water meter in your home?

Then the main water shut off valve is often located in the common hallway or stairwell, or possibly in the cellar.
