Understanding your final tap water bill

Going to move? Then you will receive a final bill for your previous address. It says what you paid for your drinking water up until you moved.

Did your previous home have a water meter? In that case, you must also pass on the last meter reading of your previous address when you move. This way we will know exactly how much water you have consumed prior to your move. And you will always pay the correct amount.

Understanding your final tap water bill

How is my final bill determined?

Your final bill is based on:

  • Your bills: have you paid all your bills (such as advance payments) or do you still have outstanding payments? Tip: view your bills via My Waternet.
  • Your water consumption: how much water have you consumed prior to your move?

Why is an additional payment required? Or why am I being refunded?

Your water bill is an advance payment. Your advance payment is estimated and based on your previous water consumption. Therefore, your advance payment may be higher or lower than your actual water consumption.

  • Have you paid for more water than you have consumed? Then the difference will be refunded.
  • Have you paid for less water than you have consumed? Then you should pay the difference to Waternet.

Please note: the balance stated on the annual statement is only correct if you have paid all of your bills..

Understanding your annual statement

Multiple amounts are listed on your annual statement under the heading ‘Eindafrekening’ (Final settlement):

  1. Waterverbruik (Water consumption): You can view your water consumption in cubic metres (m³) here. 1 cubic metre is 1000 liters.
  2. Vastrecht (Standing charge): You pay a fixed amount annually to help maintain the water pipes.
  3. Belasting op leidingwater (Tap water tax): This tax is charged per m³ of your water consumption.
  4. Kosten voor rekening: (Additional charges for paper bills): You pay an additional €1.50 for each paper bill for tap water. Customers who opt for a bill per email do not pay any additional costs.
  5. Korting voor digitale rekening: (Discount for bill per email). For customers who opt for a bill per email
  6. Kosten drinkwater exclusief btw. (Cot drinking water excluding VAT): This shows the water costs for the past year.
  7. Al in rekening gebracht exclusief btw. (Already charged excluding VAT): This amount is the total amount of all of your instalment payments.
  8. Btw (VAT): 9 % tax is levied over the standing charge, your water consumption and the taxes on tap water.
  9. Totaal door u te betalen (Total payment due): This shows the total amount charged on your bill.
Please note: the balance stated on the annual statement is only correct if you have paid all of your bills. If this is not the case we will subtract the outstanding balance from this amount.
    • Is your balance positive, for example € 10.00? And have you have paid all of your bills? Then this amount will be refunded.
    • Is your balance negative, for example € - 20,00? Then you must pay the outstanding balance.
